Pitched roof insulation

insulation over insulationIn times of rising energy costs and shortage of living area, loft conversions are becoming increasingly popular. ELASTROSPRAY LWP can be applied from inside the loft space without the need for re-roofing, adding another room to the house, cost effectively.

The roof rafters of existing homes are normally just 100mm to 200mm thick. The thickness of insulation with conventional material between the rafters is often not enough to meet today’s U-value requirements. ELASTROSPRAY LWP’s low thermal conductivity and high insulating performance means there is no need to extend the depth of rafters which is costly in terms of both time and money. Using this proven spray foam process, ELASTROSPRAY LWP is simply sprayed between the timber rafters without the need for laborious cutting and fitting. This produces a solid highly efficient airtight thermal insulation.

New pitched roof insulation

New Pitched Roof InsulationELASTROSPRAY LWP spray foam insulation is applied directly to the underside of breathable roofing membrane between timber rafters in tiled or slated pitched roofs. The spray insulation material can be installed to any thickness to achieve preferred u-values and demonstrates an impressively high level of airtightness thereby adding to the systems superior thermal performance. ELASTROSPRAY LWP has a measured water vapour permeability and so does not compromise the performance of any breathable roof membrane. ELASTROSPRAY LWP is installed by trained and accredited Foam Master contractors throughout Ireland using specialist spray foam equipment. Certain refurb scenarios may involve a non-breathable roof membrane. A rafter-slide it installed to the underside of the roofing felt to act as a separator between the foam insulation and the felt underside. This allows for a 50mm ventilated airgap as required by building regulations.

External roof insulation

Elastospray External Roof InsulatioAs with the insulation of solid flat roofs, thermal insulation of industrial roofs is a common application with ELASTROSPRAY LWP spray insulation. Roofs of warehouses, production facilities, exhibition and sports halls are normally made of profiled metal sheet and have relatively large spans. These lightweight roof constructions require a lightweight insulating material to prevent loading issues produced by snow, wind and rain.

Because of it’s in-situ installation properties, ELASTROSPRAY LWP spray foam can be applied to the metal sheet profile seamlessly, coating both the peaks and troughs in the profile. The insulating layer should to be provided with UV protection in the form of a waterproof coating .

Agricultural Insulation

Existing pitched roof insulation - no felt

Existing pitched roof insulationELASTROSPRAY LWP spray foam insulation can be applied directly onto the underside of existing slate or tiled roofs where a roofing membrane is absent. The foam insulation seals any air gaps, preventing the ingress of windblown snow, rain, dust and unwanted air infiltration and has a vapour permeability that permits the drying out of roof timbers following periods of solar radiation. ELASTROSPRAY LWP insulation is applied between rafters in sloping ceiling areas and loft conversions and is ideal when space is at a premium due to its superior thermal performance. Plasterboard can then be fixed to the rafters. In applications such as barn conversions the foam spray is dubbed out with a coat of bonding plaster and then finish plaster. Existing structures must be in a good state of repair with no evidence of rain penetration or damp. Defects should be made good prior to installing the product. ELASTROSPRAY LWP also reduces airborne noise pollution from air and road traffic. BASF ELASTROSPRAY LWP is applied throughout Ireland by trained and accredited Foam Master contractors.

ELASTOSPRAY® LWP wall insulation

Internal wall insulation

ELASTROSPRAY LWP closed cell spray foam insulation on the inside of external walls is an effective airtight insulation solution for both new build and existing constructions. Older buildings with listed facades or those worth preserving often have low thermal insulation which can be improved by more than 60%by internal insulation. Installation is also comparatively cost-effective because no scaffolding is required for the building and it can be applied on a room by room basis. Since the internal surface temperature of the wall is increased by approx. 2 to 4 degrees, this has a positive effect on the indoor climate.

ELASTROSPRAY LWP spray foam insulating material is easy to apply to the inside of the external wall between timber or steel studwork by accredited BASF contractors. After a short curing time, the insulating layer is cladded on the room side using plasterboard. Comparatively little living space is lost due to the excellent insulating performance of even a thin layer of Elastopray LWP.

Timber frame insulation

Timber frame construction is typical in the UK and Ireland. As the name suggests, this method of construction relies on a timber frame as a basic means of structural support. The outer leaf is typically stone, brick, render or timber, to suit the local district or planning requirements.

ELASTROSPRAY LWP is applied between the studwork of the timber frame for thermal insulation. The low thermal conductivity of the material has clear advantages here because, despite low wall thicknesses, a comparatively high insulating performance is achieved. The cured spray foam guarantees additional support and stability for the whole of the timber frame construction. The “in-situ” application of the foam also guarantees airtightness of the structure, something traditional insulation methods cannot do. There must be an air gap between the external-facing and the insulated timber frame for ventilation.

ELASTROSPRAY LWP Polyurethane spray is hypo allergenic and so contains no fibres or dust and no noxious vapours. BASF ELASTROSPRAY LWP is very quickly installed by Foam Master contractors using specialist equipment.

Masonry wall insulation – steel stud

ELASTROSPRAY LWP spray foam insulation can be applied directly onto a solid dry masonry wall, between steel studwork fixed floor to ceiling. This allows for a layer of ELASTROSPRAY LWP to remain unbridged by studwork thereby helping to reduce u-values further. The foam will engage any light steel framework to provide a more solid, secure wall when compared to other insulation methods. Ordinarily, a 25mm cavity will remain between the insulation and vapour control layers to allow for services. ELASTROSPRAY LWP guarantees additional support and stability for the whole of the wall construction. The resulting continuous insulation and air barrier system will provide a cleaner, healthier more comfortable environment for any “hard to treat” home situation.

ELASTOSPRAY® LWP soffit insulation

Soffit insulation

Elastospray Soffit InsulationCold ground floors of a building can occur when a soffit is not insulated against the unheated basement. The low temperatures in the concrete soffit can lead to high energy losses, interstitial condensation and even the formation of mould. This problem can easily be resolved by insulating with Elastospray LWP.

The BASF spray foam system can be applied to most soffits, without costly access equipment. The material is self-adhesive and does not requires labour intensive cutting and fixing. Water pipes and electrical cables can easily be hung beneath the insulation. Any uneven areas such as old vaulted basements, ribbed or waffled shaped soffits, can be rapidly and economically insulated using Elastospray LWP spray foam.  The insulation is seamless compared to conventional insulating methods, so there is no risk of cold air penetrating through the ceiling and creating heat loss.
